567 Winter in Plymouth, Massachusetts

I just returned from a visit with dear old friends on the East Coast, friends who are more like family than just "friends."  The Boston area has MUCH more snow than we do here in the Milwaukee area, in fact, the day I returned home to NO snow, Boston's all-time record for the snowiest winter had been broken with a 2+ inch snowfall.

This is a scene from a beautiful Plymouth, Massachusetts back road pond.  There were swans swimming in this pond, and perhaps they will make it in a painting one day.  My BFF indulged me with MANY stops for photo shoots.  I have enough painting photo references to keep me busy for a very long time.

199 Path to the Sea

On Hilton Head Island, our group of artists rented a beautiful home on the ocean.  This is a painting of the sandy path leading from the home to the Atlantic Ocean.  The beach was pristine and we found many "treasures" to sketch.  It is a very peaceful place.

198 Marsh Grass

I just returned from a wonderful week-long plein air painting trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina.  We immersed ourselves (somewhat literally---my first kayaking experience) in an attempt to learn about the marshes' plants and sea life.  I found it to be fascinating.  The wildlife, the terrain, and the landscape are all so very different from anything we have here in the Midwest.  Painting the marshes was a challenge because they change so frequently with the tide and the light.  It took some getting used to.  I will continue to practice now that I am home.

184 Autumn Berries

Autumn's color palette seems so much more vibrant than other seasons',  and oh how I wish we could keep this beautiful weather until Spring.  Winter will be here much too soon.  I must learn to paint snow.

Beltane Ranch Figs

Prior to October, I had never eaten a freshly picked fig.  I couldn't get enough of them---so delicious.  The folks at the Beltane Ranch gave me an egg carton full of them to bring home, which I rationed in the days ahead.
