794 Purple Pineapple

This is a birthday gift for my neighbor friend, who will gift it to someone who loves pineapples and the color purple.  She photographed the pineapple in Costa Rica and was so excited that she could satisfy both desires.  I never accepted the challenge in the past, but am glad I did this time.

Not sure what it is about pineapples, but the other day I came across two other pineapple paintings.
Maybe it's a new trend and I'm just out of the loop.  A warm beach and a pina colada would satisfy me right about now.

668 Lebanese Cherries

While in Lebanon last month, we attended a beautiful engagement party where the most picturesque  food was served, including fruits and vegetables so fresh and pure, that we rarely see here in the United States.  I was happy to see cherries, as I have a special place in my heart for them, since they represent Door County, Wisconsin, a favorite spot.  These had an interesting purple stripe, which I've never seen before.

In other news:  I am so excited that the TV production company for Chicago Fire has rented another of my paintings, "603 Sunflowers in the Sunroom."  It's a small gesture that validates and motivates this artist's work, and for that I am very grateful.

646 Strawberry Festival

It's strawberry picking time in Wisconsin, and the charming town of Cedarburg has its annual Strawberry Festival this weekend.  In addition, Cedarburg Art Center just finished its annual 10 day Plein Air Festival and the completed artwork was on display beginning today.  The weather was beautiful for the painters and the paintings were not "foggy" like last year.  The artists did a wonderful job and many of the paintings were sold early on.

These are more strawberries my neighbors picked for me on their second strawberry picking trip.

643 Neighborly

We have THE best neighbors across the street.  They are so kind and loving, and I have become quite fond of their two children.  Every year, they go strawberry and sugar snap pea picking, and always bring some for us to enjoy.  There is nothing like a fresh picked strawberry!  The peas were eaten within 10 minutes and the painting was started right away.  I miss the days when we would go strawberry/apple/raspberry/peach picking with our kids and good friends.

625 Door County Classic

Door County has always been known for it's cherry production.  They have become even more popular since research has shown the antioxidant health benefits of cherries.  You can buy cherry jam, wine, honey, juice, salsa, pies, sausage, dried cherries, frozen cherries, and the list goes on.  The cherry trees are in full bloom now, which means that the cherries will be ready to pick in approximately 60 days.

437 For Pie

My favorite apple, the McIntosh, along with Jonathans make a great pie, in my opinion.
It was also the inspiration for the name of Apple's personal computers, also my favorite.

536 Meyer Lemons

The other day, I was at our local grocery store, and as usual, I spent a lot of time in the produce department.  I must have looked suspicious, because as I was slowly and carefully looking for the perfect vegetables/fruit, the produce manager approached me:
She asked,  "Can I HELP you?"
I replied, "No, but thank you."
She, "Did you have any questions?"
My reply, "Nope."

I have never tasted a Meyer lemon, but I was curious about them, so I bought a package.  I learned from an internet site that they are thought to be a cross between either a Eureka or Lisbon lemon and a mandarin orange, and they take on a sightly yellow-orange color.  The skin seems to be much thinner than a common lemon or orange.  They are supposedly sweeter than a lemon, and often used to make lemon pies.  My mother used to make a highly coveted lemon meringue pie.  I wonder if she used Meyer Lemons. Sadly all of her recipes are gone.

p.s.  The blue in this bowl is not screaming as it appears in this picture.

535 After Dinner

I recently learned that mandarin oranges are used to cleanse the palette after a meal.  My garden club is holding a Chinese Tea Tasting next weekend to celebrate the Chinese New Year, and we will be serving them after tea sandwiches and cookies.

523 Cuties, Again

It is probably obvious by now that Blue/Orange is my favorite complementary color palette.  Funny thing is I never liked the color orange, until I received an orange pumpkin soap dispenser at a luncheon and it discovered how fabulous it looks in my pale turquoise kitchen.  It is now my permanent accent color.

As this miserable cold reaches the 1 week mark, the Cuties  (vitamin C) are dwindling away.  All of Milwaukee is sick!

522 Cuties in the Oak Leaf Bowl

My oak leaf bowl has housed an overflowing Vitamin C supply for the last several days.  I've been trying to rid myself of a miserable cold, so the pile has dwindled quite a bit.

506. Persimmons in a Blue and White Bowl

My Jean Wells bowl is getting quite a showing.

http://www.dailypaintworks.com/fineart/diane-campion/506--persimmons-in-a-blue-and-white-bowl/293068

Yesterday Jean delivered my order of her meticulously crafted pottery.  Some people in my family will be happy to receive it.  (Shhhh....)  She has changed directions on her designs to appeal more to the "modern" set.   Check out her work at her Etsy store here:

Here sugar skull mugs are now sold at Colectivo Coffee.  Very cool.
