637 Calm

I took the reference photo for this painting last summer from a ferry approaching Vineyard Haven on Martha's Vineyard.  It was such a beautiful day, and we were with the dearest of friends, more like family.  The sun was shining, and that day, everything was right with the world.  I remember the feeling of calm and contentment very vividly.

Do I score points for persistence and determination?  Note: another water and boat painting.  I think this scene, which really had two canoes in it, warrants a larger format.

610 Happy Little Signs of Spring

Many thanks to Kari Snick for allowing me to use her photograph of this happy little vignette.  I notice that one of the eggs has a crack in it, so I wonder if the eggs have hatched.

In Owl Patrol news, this afternoon I heard loud squawking coming from the tree where the owls were last seen.  Out my kitchen window, I sawe lots of wing-flapping during this raid.  It made me so sad to see two nasty crows diving on the owls so  I went outside and CAW CAWed at them a few times, hoping to shoo them away.  One left and the other followed a few seconds later.   I was relieved.

571 Back Road, Plymouth, Massachusetts

Last night, I was painting a different scene from another back road in Plymouth, Massachusetts which contained a little building, not really a house, more like a shed.  I felt good about the landscape but was so frustrated with the building.  I worked on it again today, and while it is better, it still isn't right.  I decided to leave it alone for awhile and start another painting of a scene with a small building.  This was one of those "Stop the car, I need to get out " moments when I had to take a photo. I am much happier with this painting than last night's painting.

Plymouth, Massachusetts is a really beautiful place.  And my BFF lives there.

530 Leaving Town

I took this photo while entering the freeway spur and I guess the camera was off kilter.  I've been looking at it for many months, liking the odd angle and wanting to paint it.  Daily Paintworks' Challenge is 'Gritty City" this week, so I thought I might try it.  It's out of my system now and I can return to more enjoyable paintings.  (Phew, glad that's over.)  The funny thing is that even though I pass this scene often, I don't even know what it is.

517 Shapely 2

This is the second time I have painted this scene.  A friend really liked it and wanted it for a trio of autumn paintings, but it was sold.  I love the shape of this tree, as it almost looks like a woman's "shapely" figure.  This photo shows the painting framed with Franken Frames's floater frame.  I really like these frames because none of the image is lost as it would be with a conventional frame.

516 Lady

Meet Lady, a horse we met at Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu, New Mexico.  At the time, she was old and blind and very sway-back, but affectionate and seemingly happy.  She has the run of the ranch, unlike most other horses there.

504 Thoughtful Gift

These persimmons were given to me as a gift from a friend after I mentioned that I have never painted persimmons from life.  They are such a beautiful fruit and I think look very much at home in my blue and white Jean Wells bowl.

It felt so good to paint again today after a week off, not by choice, but because there aren't enough hours in the day.  I am feeling very grateful and humble at the response to my 500th Painting open house celebration last week.  It was particularly rewarding for me to have Jean Wells visit and approve of my paintings of her beautiful bowls.

461 Fish Creek Harbor

It was a dreary day at Fish Creek Harbor when we painted there, and none of the boats were sailing.  The paintings I made on that day were noticeably much grayer, but on a later, brighter day I drove by the harbor and snapped a picture.  I am fascinated by how the water color changes so drastically with the weather.

These radishes were freshly picked and in our farm box recently.  Radishes are one of my favorites, so I had to exercise restraint not to eat them right away.

423 Only Room For Two

I was on vacation for the last week and had a wonderful time despite only painting two feather watercolors.  One of the many highlights of my trip was a visit to Daily Paintworks' sweetheart and fellow-DPW artist, Lisa Daria (Kennedy).  She and pooch Brie were wonderful hosts, and it was so much fun to meet her in person and to see where all her beautiful works originate.  Lisa had completed 1889 paintings on consecutive days as of our visit, never missing a single day!!  I am now posting my 423rd painting,  "423 Only Room For Two."
It was fun to see the flower arrangement Lisa has painted for the last several days and how she transforms an ordinary vase of ordinary flowers into something masterful.

Lisa was very helpful to me when I initially joined DPW, and continues to generously share her knowledge and suggestions.  Her progression from her first painting to her present body of work has been very encouraging and motivating for me to keep plugging away, learning something new every day.

Here is a link to Lisa's 1889th painting, which she named "1889 Visitors": http://www.dailypaintworks.com/fineart/lisa-daria/1889-visitors/246971

The lovely frame shown above is available for a ridiculously low price, so contact me if you are interested.

408 Mismatched

I am sure none of these items technically belong together, but according to artistic license I can put a cardinal egg with a different bird feather and a nest I don't know was built for whom, but I enjoyed painting it nonetheless.

I don't know how or why the key became attached to the shell in this collection, but I like it because it provides an unexpected element to the painting.
