409 Gladiolas
I am very fond of gladiolas because a favorite aunt grew them each year in one of her beautiful gardens. She included them in expertly crafted flower arrangements throughout the house. It always felt special to visit there---something I did for10 summers. I know I did not do these flowers justice, partly because I spent too much time researching and categorizing my feather collection, which continues to grow, and not enough time painting. I painted these from real life, and found them difficult to manage.
398 Succulent
Strawberry picking used to be an annual event for our family. Now that the kids are grown, we don't seem to make the effort. Some really sweet neighbors always pick extra strawberries and sugar snap peas for us, and what a treat! I had to restrain myself from eating all the strawberries for my still life photos! The lovely community of Cedarburg, Wisconsin has a strawberry festival this weekend, which is a really big deal.

365
This is my 365th daily painting for the Daily Paintworks website, and I am so happy and proud I took the plunge, which was very scary at first. It began with my first posting on April 9, 2013 of a pansy painting, coincidentally enough. It sold that first day. This has been a wonderful learning experience for me as I have met many of my goals--to paint faster and looser, try new subject matter, learn how to crop and edit photos, and not obsess over the title. Painting has been such a delightful routine for me, and such an important part of each day. There is still much more to learn and experience and I look forward to that. Thank you to all who have sent encouraging comments and/or have purchased paintings.

Today is my one year anniversary as a Daily Paintworks artist. I have painted and posted 329 daily paintings, missed 36 days. It has been a very rewarding experience for me and I feel I have learned a great deal. Several people have asked me if I plan to quit after a year, but....heck, no! I hope you have enjoyed following my progress. My 365th painting will be something to celebrate!
328. Double Dutch in an Olive Oil Jar
326 Orange Parrots
325 Duel
My daughter made this vessel in a high school ceramics class. It is one of my favorite pieces because of its color and unusual shape. It was difficult for me to paint. I love it with these orange tulips, which have many more petals than your run-of-the-mill tulips. This bunch, from Trader Joe's, had what I call 2 "double Dutch" and one "triple Dutch"---two or three tulips on ONE stem! How exciting! (Can you tell I'm a gardener?)
