506. Persimmons in a Blue and White Bowl
My Jean Wells bowl is getting quite a showing.

Yesterday Jean delivered my order of her meticulously crafted pottery. Some people in my family will be happy to receive it. (Shhhh....) She has changed directions on her designs to appeal more to the "modern" set. Check out her work at her Etsy store here:

Here sugar skull mugs are now sold at Colectivo Coffee. Very cool.

490 Big Bay Landscape
One of my favorite places to get away is Big Bay Park which overlooks Lake Michigan in my community. At this time of year, the maples are so vibrant along the way leading to the path that takes you to the lake. This Fall I've stopped my car many times to take pictures of the trees in all their glory and brilliance, and couldn't resist the impulse to paint them. I squirted out the Indian Yellow and Nickel Azo Yellow for this one.

485 Empty Red Bowl
This is one of the eight beautiful bowls I purchased at Empty Bowls Milwaukee. I purchased three bowls made and donated by Jody Nolan, all are free formed and irregular and beautiful and I don't think I can part with them. I don't know much about making pottery, but they look to me like they are made from a slab of clay rather than a thrown pot. Here is the link to Jody's site: http://jodynolanclay.com/

475 Lavish
I was stumped as to what to name this painting so I did a little online research on the lowly, unappreciated onion to gain inspiration. I learned that "onions are an ace ally in your fight against disease. A prized member of
the lily family, they lavish you with health benefits." These beauties are from our farm CSA, Springdale Farm.

467 Lanterns in a Cobalt Pitcher
I was a little leery of painting the Chinese Lanterns so small because I didn't want to get "fussy," but I am very happy with them. This pitcher was given to me by my dear friend, Sharon, who lives in Maine. I miss seeing her and talking to her on regular basis. Coincidentally, her birthday is October 2, so this was painted with loving thoughts of her and all the fun we had as neighbors.

462 Chinese Lanterns and Oak Leaves
These Chinese Lanterns a.k.a Physalis alkekengi, Japanese Lanterns, winter cherry, are my glamour crop for this season. They have spread like crazy in my back garden and it is fun to find something so colorful that the rabbits don't eat. I love how they look in the blue and white bowl with the acorns. I hate to see summer end, but I love the vibrancy of the colors of Autumn.

457 Onions in the Spotlight
456 Dressed Up
442 Scallions, a Spaniard and a Leek
Produce from last week's farm box posed an interesting challenge for me---such limited colors and so many greens and "whites." After several days away from painting, I was very loose, which surprised me.
I was in the Detroit area visiting family, and took the opportunity to visit with fellow "daily painter," Dave Capalungan. Dave was my "neighbor" on Daily Paintworks until a new artist moved in the neighborhood. I love Dave's work, which is exceptionally more beautiful seeing it in person. I was honored and delighted to receive his gift of one of his paintings, and purchased another I have had my eye on. I learn a lot from Dave, as he is always willing to share ideas. Here is a picture of us in front of his stunning orchid painting and the gift I received from him.

386 Another Full House
Once again, credit is due to Eugene for sharing his beautiful photo with me. After painting with watercolors yesterday, I wanted to paint it with acrylics to see which I felt better represented the subject.
